When it’s Time to Spread Out: Acreage Communities North of SA

Arguably, one of the best parts of living in the great state of Texas is the sheer size of it and the room provided to spread out. And though Texas continues to grow in population, there’s still plenty of acreage, land, and natural beauty making it unbelievably attractive to folks looking for that big-city reprieve.

That’s right, there are tons of places to take advantage of the surplus of Texas land; places where you won’t find subdivisions with homes so close together you could high-five your neighbors through the window, traffic-filled roads, or overcrowded schools.

For many people, the draw of these wide open spaces lies within the Hill Country. And though the region spreads far and wide, the southern-most part of it (offering up towns like Bulverde, Spring Branch, and Canyon Lake) combines big-city amenities with the spaciousness and tranquility of country living.

If you are looking for a little more room to spread out, these north of San Antonio acreage communities may be just what you’ve been dreaming of:

    River Crossing
Noted for its serene Hill Country setting, River Crossing is located north of San Antonio in the suburb of Spring Branch. This luxury community offers large homes with unparalleled views, a PGA quality golf course, resort style pool, tennis and basketball courts, playground, fitness center, walking trails, and a clubhouse.

Featuring homes built atop rolling, lush tree-covered hills, the nearly 1000 homes in the community are sited on a minimum lot size of 1 acre. These homes, ranging in price from $300k to $1 million +, are primarily custom builds and boast of square footage between 2,200 sq. ft to 5,000+ sq ft.

    Cypress Springs
While many San Antonio area small towns hint at rural, countryside charm, Cypress Springs truly immerses its residents in the full landscape of the Hill Country. Located off TX-46 just outside Spring Branch, Cypress Springs is a sprawling 2700 acre subdivision. Composed of just under 500 properties, each home in Cypress Creek sits atop multiple acres.

The homes in Cypress Springs, which range in price from the mid-$300,000s to upper $400,000s, are sited atop lots ranging in sizes between 1 and 14 acres, all of which are surrounded by panoramic views, rolling hills, and centuries-old trees and foliage.

    Rim Rock Ranch
A Bulverde neighborhood offering quiet country living with family activities, Rim Rock Ranch is the quintessential Hill Country community. Located only 15 miles north of San Antonio, Rim Rock Ranch presents 450 home sites, all boasting fantastic views on spacious acreage lots, that range in price from $300,000 – $500,000+.

WIthin the community, residents of Rim Rock Ranch enjoy hiking and walking trails, tennis courts, sports courts, a neighborhood park and playground, all with the Hill Country as the backdrop.

    Sendero Ranch
Right outside the SA city limits (yet still maintaining a San Antonio address), Sendero Ranch is a luxury gated community offering large acreage properties. A premier 161 lot community noted for the aged and gnarled oaks, and bustling wildlife within its gates, Sendero Ranch offers breathtaking views and “a quiet solitude most often found miles away from the city.”

    Mountain Springs Ranch
Mountain Springs Ranch, located in the Canyon Lake area, is perhaps best known for its high elevation views of the Hill Country. A small community with big views, this community maintains only around 600 lots. Though it presents close proximity to Highways 281 and 46, this coveted neighborhood is tucked away from the city, yet is close enough for easy access.

    Cordillera Ranch
Further west on TX-46, Cordillera Ranch boasts sprawling luxury properties with stunning views in a private, natural setting. This unique luxury community (situated on the Guadalupe) offers over 8,000 acres of home sites and some of the best amenities around. Residents of this neighborhood enjoy canoeing and kayaking down the Guadalupe, golfing on the award-winning course, and participating in an equestrian club providing both English and Western-style riding amongst other activities.
A resort in itself, the neighborhood also boasts a spa and fitness facility, a tennis and swim club, and a rod and gun club.
As one of the area’s priciest neighborhoods, houses in Cordillera Ranch start at the half a million dollar mark and proceed upward well into the millions of dollars.

    Lantana Ridge
Another Spring Branch community, Lantana Ridge has carefully preserved the flora and peaceful tranquility of the land that was once Texas ranch land. A gated master-planned community, Lantana Ridge is home to nearly 300 homesites and neighborhood amenities such as a private neighborhood park, playscape, walking trails, a picnic table, and grills.
